“Newport has always had one of the most aggressive and progressive fishing fleets on the west coast. Over the past thirty years, the size of the boats increased quicker than our local haul-out facilities. Our goal was not only to keep the money in the community but also to create jobs. The most important steps were to acquire the 660-ton boat lift, build a facility that can house large vessels and to assemble a crew of people that can deliver outstanding, specialized work.
I started as the general manager for the Port of Toledo 16 years ago. In my work, I don’t lie and I make mistakes. I have made huge mistakes! I think what makes me stronger is not being afraid to try, dream and make corrections as you go. But always keep your eyes on your goal.
As I now enter retirement, I would like to express my gratitude to all who have supported me. Thank you! What has been accomplished is the fruit of our strong collaborations and partnerships, which I deeply value.

I ask them, what has been their key to a successful marriage? … “We’ve found that - for us - the key to a happy marriage is always continuing to date each other, staying curious about each other, doing things we love together, and constantly finding adventure. We try to remind ourselves to have fun, to laugh a lot. It’s important to say sorry and acknowledge our mistakes, to forgive and to ask for forgiveness. We try to see things through each other’s eyes as often as we can remember. And we take all our joys and sorrows to God. “
